DeKalb County Council on Aging celebrates growth and service with open house and ribbon cutting
The DeKalb County Council on Aging invites the community to attend an Open House and Ribbon Cutting event, where guests can learn more about the services offered by the Heimach Senior Activity Center and DART Transportation. The Council on Aging was honored as the 2024 Non-Profit of the Year by the DeKalb Chamber Partnership, and we're excited to share the ways we continue to support and empower the senior community.
In the early 1970s, Reverend Bill Heimach, then pastor of Auburn Presbyterian Church, recognized the need for DeKalb County's seniors to come together for food, fellowship, and fun. This vision led to the founding of the DeKalb County Council on Aging in 1978, and the Heimach Senior Activity Center became a place for seniors to gather and thrive.
As we look ahead, the DeKalb County Council on Aging is focused on continued growth and expanding our services, programs, and DART Transportation. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 10,000 people turn 65 every day in the United States. With the senior population steadily increasing, the need for the vital resources and services provided by the Heimach Center, the DeKalb County Council on Aging, and DART Transportation will only continue to grow.
"We are committed to offering the best programs, resources, and services to the seniors of DeKalb County and beyond," said a representative from the organization. "We love our seniors and are proud to serve them each and every day."
For those who jokingly say they're "not old enough" to visit the Heimach Center, the message is simple: "You will grow into us!" The DeKalb County Council on Aging is dedicated to helping seniors live their best lives and ensuring they have access to the resources they need for a fulfilling, active life.
Join us for the Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, February 27th at 3 PM, and discover how the DeKalb County Council on Aging continues to serve and uplift the senior community.
